October 2004: CCD Retreat

We are planning this as an all-day event.

Topic: IT Structure at Cornell

Defining the role of the CCDs within the new IT landscape at Cornell. Clarify the ways in which we, as a group, can contribute positively to campus IT in a dynamic environment. (Added, 9/8/04) As Sunny wrote, "The retreat will be a great opportunity to clarify the role of the CCD group in the context of the IT Managers' Council (and the other workforce planning recommendations), while learning more about ourselves as individuals and as a group."

Improvements are constantly being made to the system, so prospective customers are encouraged to check back in on the service offerings regularly. Proposed topic agenda (9/7/04).

Here's what we've requested: Not a sales pitch, but technical. Discussion of recent problems or outstanding issues, what's being done to fix any known short-comings, and future directions. Some issues to get started - perhaps others can add to this list:

  • Some CCD members have confided in some challenges they've experienced and others are hearing some bad comments recently about the ability to restore: What's the reality?

  • Any hope for centrally managed workstation backup, rather than one-by-one.(?Example?)
